What is the Rail
Clearways plan?
The Rail Clearways plan is a $1.8 billion initiative of the NSW Government to strengthen reliability and increase capacity on the CityRail network, presently recognised as one of the most complex in the world. This plan comprises 15
projects to simplify the network to allow more reliable and frequent services and to increase capacity for future growth.
Rail Clearways is part of RailCorp’s multi-billion dollar Rail Growth Strategy to increase capacity and expand the CityRail network.

As with any major project, there will be some inconvenience while work is undertaken. This may involve changes to scheduled services or even alternative transport arrangements such as buses. However, most of the work will be limited to weekends and some school holiday periods.
Information on construction and changes to transport arrangements will be provided through letters to residents and businesses, with the CityRail website to also contain this information for the general public.
Information on planned trackwork is available in the Trackwork section.
What are the benefits of Rail Clearways?
• More reliable, frequent and convenient rail services
• Increased capacity to relieve crowding
• Additional peak hour services
• Reduced congestion at key stations
• Simplified network to operate and easier to recover in the case of an incident.
