Central Coast passengers will get to experience first hand some of the latest features in rail technology as outer suburban carriages (Oscars) begin operating on the Newcastle & Central Coast Line.

The first service will commence from Gosford Station during the AM peak on Tuesday 8th April, with a daily service from Gosford at 6.49am, arriving at Central at 8.22am.

A total of 30 services Oscar services will operate each week, including services from Sydney to Hornsby, Sydney to Blacktown, and between Gosford and Central during the AM and PM peak periods.

"The Oscars will provide a much needed service upgrade to the people of the Central Coast, North Shore and West of Sydney," said CityRail's General Manager of Customer Service, Damon Tudor.

"Oscar carriages are the future of rail in NSW and will see Central Coast passengers better informed and able to travel in greater comfort in advanced air-conditioned carriages," Mr Tudor said.

The new Oscar carriages are part of a $4 billion NSW Government investment in new rolling stock that will deliver ongoing benefits around safety, capacity and reliability across the entire CityRail network.

The rollout of Oscar services will allow Tangara trains currently servicing outer-metropolitan areas to be redirected to the busiest suburban lines. This means that newer, more advanced trains will be operate on more CityRail lines.
