Animals and pets
Animals are not permitted to travel on CityRail services, except for:
- assistance animals trained to assist passengers with a disability
- assistance animals in training
- police and security dogs.
Assistance animals
CityRail allows animals to travel if they are assistance animals trained to help customers with a disability while travelling on public transport.
When travelling with us, assistance animals must be under the control of the registered handler at all times. Please use the wide gate at the station barriers and be aware that you are responsible for the conduct, care, feeding and toileting of your animal on stations and trains.
Guide and hearing dogs must wear a harness or medallion of registration, and all other animals must be certified as a trained assistance animal. A NSW Transport Authorities Hearing Dog Certificate can be used to identify registered hearing dogs for travel on all CityRail services. Interstate and internationally certified guide and hearing dogs are also recognised.
Certifying your assistance animal
To obtain a Hearing Dog Certificate or to make an application to certify an animal (other than a registered guide dog or hearing dog) as an assistance animal for travel on the CityRail network, call Passes and Concessions on 1300 302 130.
