World Youth Day 2008

World Youth Day is the largest youth event in the world and will be held in Sydney from Tuesday 15 July to Sunday 20 July. Organised by the Catholic Church, WYD08 is expected to attract more than 125,000 international visitors. What is World Youth Day

CityRail is running extra services from Thursday 10 to Wednesday 23 July to move both regular commuters and the large number of participants travelling during this event.

Weekday events
The weekday timetable caters for the equivalent of 4 peak periods with additional services operating between 10.00am and 3.00pm to the City and from 7.00pm to midnight from the City. The timetable for weekday events suits all WYD08 start and finish times.

Start and finish times for weekday events have been scheduled to avoid participants travelling during commuter peak periods.

Pilgrimage Walks and Evening Vigil
Increased services are operating to transport registered participants to the start of the Pilgrimage Walk, which begins from North Sydney and Central stations. Additional services are also operating from 9.00pm at the conclusion of the Vigil Mass.

Sunday 20 July (view train timetable)
Final Mass at Randwick Racecourse
Increased services are operating between 5.00am and 9.00am from all suburban lines to transport participants to Central Station who are travelling to the Final Mass at Randwick. Increased services are operating between 1.00pm and 10.00pm to accommodate the large numbers of participants departing from the Final Mass.
